Martha Ankomah Goes Behind The Camera

Martha Ankomah

Several years after gracing the silver screens as a successful and award-winning actress, Martha Ankomah is set for a new challenge in her line of work.

The beautiful actress has now gone behind the camera to produce her debut movie titled ‘A Happy Surprise’.

The new movie is anticipated to channel a whole new path for the ‘Somewhere In Africa’ actress.

Over the past few years, with a quest to create seminal cinematic works and keep the movie industry on its ‘feet’, some actresses have taken matters into their own hands, stepping behind the camera and embracing roles as writers, producers, and even directors.

By leveraging on their name recognition and influence, these women have been exercising greater control over the projects they bring to life, overseeing them from inception to distribution and breaking records with their works.

A tall list of some of these women include actresses; Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro, Lydia Forson, Joselyn Dumas, Zynnell Zuh, Kafui Danku, Juliet Ibrahim, Nadia Buari,  Selassie Ibrahim, Mercy Asiedu, and Emelia Brobbey, who have all gone on from acting to produce their own movies.

Martha is the latest actress to join the bandwagon. She lined up some of Ghana’s finest showbiz personalities in her upcoming production.

All roads are expected to lead to the Silverbird Cinemas at Accra Mall & West Hills where the movie will premiere on January 1, 2022.

The movie’s impressive cast include Adjetey Anang, Prince David Osei, Diana Gbatey, Kalybos, Amanda Jissih and Paulina Oduro.

The movie indeed has a lot of surprises; including musicians Joe Mettle and Diana Hopeson making their debut in a movie.

Martha started acting in 1994, and entering a competition, Next Movie Star, where she placed third in the 2007 edition of the reality show. She has since not looked back

His mother advised him not to look after our son - Akuapem Poloo exposes baby daddy

Akuapem Poloo

The Court of Appeal has on Wednesday December 15 set aside the prison sentence of actress and socialite Rosemond Brown, popularly known as Akuapem Poloo.

She has been fined 1000 , 500, and 500 penalty units on the three counts.

These are expected to run concurrently.

The Court had earlier thrown out an appeal filed by her lawyers.

She was handed a 90-day jail term by an Accra Circuit Court for publishing obscene material and violating the dignity and integrity of her seven-year-old son in a nude photo she posted on social media in June, 2020.

Though she served a period into her term, her lawyers appealed the judgement considering it too harsh.

She was subsequently granted an GH¢80,000 bail, pending the determination of the appeal.

On Wednesday, December 1, the Court found her appeal without merit and was subsequently ordered to go and continue her 90-day imprisonment

Sad seeing school children learning under trees whilst MPs drive V8s – Martha Ankomah

Sad seeing school children learning under trees whilst MPs drive V8s - Martha Ankomah

Martha Ankomah

Ghanaian actress, Martha Ankomah, has lamented the sad state of school infrastructure in the country. According to her, it is heartbreaking to see school children sitting under trees learning whilst MPs drive in luxurious public-funded V8 cars.

In an interview with Accra FM, Martha Ankomah expressed her disappointment with the state of rural schools, which she attributed to poor leadership.

“Our problem is actually leadership, not just politicians in Ghana, but the whole of African. The problem is leadership.”

She added that Ghana is blessed with all the resources. Yet, the country is poor, but a country like Dubai has only oil but is very developed.

“If Dubai extracts only oil and has been able to develop its country. And Ghana, God has blessed us with all resources, including oil. And yet, we are poor. Then there is no need for other countries to borrow money from Ghana because it is very
worrying.

“Ghana was gifted with everything on earth, but our problem is leadership. And if our leaders are going to change their mindset and have a love for the country, then Ghana would be a better place to be. I feel sad when I see school children under tress learning and MPs drive in V8 sharing goats, chickens and bicycles during elections”.

Martha Ankomah pleaded with government officials, especially lawmakers, to prioritise the country’s needs over personal satisfaction.

“Do something for someone to say this MP really worked. He constructed roads, not the MP that did nothing whiles school children are learning under trees. Good name, the Bible says, is better than riches,” she concluded

Kumasi Theatre Will Be Ready By 2022 – Okraku Mantey

Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mark Okraku-Mantey has hinted that the Kumasi theatre promised by the government will reach its full completion by the end of 2022.

He gave this information when he appeared on Happy FM’s ‘Showbiz Xtra’ hosted by Doctar Cann.××

“Government’s job for the creative industry is to create an enabling environment, give you the logistics that as individuals we cannot buy like a theatre. That is why the creative arts school in Kumasi right now has a theatre that is going to house close to 2000 people.

“We asked for it when I was with you four years ago and the President has taken steps that we must start. By next year, pictures of Kumasi’s theatre will be out. By end of next year, the theatre will be complete,” he told Doctar Cann.

Two years ago, during his third State of the Nation Address on February 21, 2019, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that work on the construction of the performance theatre was underway in Kumasi.

“The Eastern Region Theatre has been completed, and work is currently ongoing towards the construction of the Kumasi theatre,” he said.

Last year, it was reported that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on behalf of government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Bengbu International Technology & Economic Cooperation Ltd for construction of a two thousand capacity theatre/conference Centre to be built in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

In 2016, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised to build a large theatre for each region should they win power. In its manifesto, the NPP said, “Pursue the construction of modern large seating theatres in every regional capital except Accra, beginning with Takoradi, Tamale and Kumasi, as well as setting up an additional copyright office in Tamale to cater for the northern sector in addition to the existing ones in Accra and Kumasi.”

In 2019, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia reiterated the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) campaign promise to build large seating event theatres in all regions of the country.

Ghanaian pastors are doing marketing with their prophecies’ – Shatta Wale

Shatta Wale Address

• Shatta Wale has rubbished a death prophesy about him

• Shatta says pastors are now marketing their brands with prophecies on celebs

• Jesus Ahoufe has prophesied that Shatta will be murdered on October 18, 2021

Dancehall musician, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, has taken a swipe at Ghanaian prophets who are best known for their prophecies of doom centred around celebrities in the country.

Shatta Wale in a tweet on September 29, called out pastors who market their brands by publicly claiming to have death prophesies of key personalities in Ghana.

According to Bishop Stephen Akwasi, popularly known as Jesus Ahoufe, it has been revealed to him in the spiritual realm that, Shatta is going to be murdered on Monday, October 18, 2021, by armed robbers. He has called on Ghanaians and also the singer to pray against this evil plot by his enemies.

But, the celebrated dancehall artiste in response said prophecies are supposed to be in secrecy where the individual is informed privately but instead, men of God are now announcing their dreams to the media space and on social media.null

He wrote: “The spiritual realm doesn’t come with prophecies, it’s secrecy. Don’t let any man lie to you No pastor has been there before and I’m yet to meet one, they all doing Marketing. Very fucken country.”

Earlier, Shatta Wale made a mockery of the death prophesy from Jesus Ahoufe. He wrote: “Ok I hear I will buy bulletproof and commando dress…thank you for seeing that Sadik want to shoot me in October.”

The prophet, Jesus Ahoufe, disclosed the death prophesy of the ‘Ayoo’ hitmaker on Accra FM.

“On 18th October 2021, something will happen in Ghana. The public should start praying for prominent musicians, those who do dancehall music. I see that one of them has died. The same happen on 18th October 2007 in South Africa, the same will happen in Ghana. In the spiritual realm, I saw that the artiste was shot dead by armed robbers. He has to go see a prophet for prayers. He is a big star, in Ghana when you reveal such prophesies you are attacked. I can see that the artiste, has a lot of enemies, people hate him.

“On 18th October 2007, South African reggae artiste, Lucky Dube was killed, the same is going to happen in Ghana. The musician in question has Charles as his first name, he is very popular… he should be very prayerful else the prophesy of his death will come to pass on 18th October,” Bishop Stephen Akwasi told host of Ayekoo Ayekoo, Nana Romeo.

Giving Nana Ampadu a state burial will be in order – Okraku Mantey

Okraku Mantey Calm

• Highlife legend Nana Ampadu has passed on

• A section of the public say he deserves a state burial

• The deputy minister of Tourism has suggested that call is in the right direction

The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, has stated that nobody can demand a state burial at the time of their death despite their contribution to Ghana.

Responding to calls for a state burial in honour of the late Highlife legend, Nana Kwame Ampadu, by a section of the public, the deputy minister noted that “it will be in order to give Nana Ampadu a state burial,” however, that decision lies in the hands of the state and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking in an interview on ‘Entertainment Review’ on Peace FM, Mr Okraku Mantey recalled an instance where the family of late veteran actor and producer, Osofo Dadzie, stated that his wish was for Ghana to give him a state burial when he dies.null

According to him, President Akufo-Addo explained that the mandate solely depends on the state and not a request made by an individual.

“During Osofo Dadzie’s passing last year, the Minister at the time, Barbara Oteng Gyasi led a delegation to see the president. One of his family members in a request told the president that due to Osofo Dadzie’s contribution to Ghana, he deserved a state burial not knowing that the president had quoted it down. When it was time for him to address the delegation, he stated that he as president doesn’t have control to say that he should be given a state burial when he dies. It is the state at the time that will take that decision because the family claimed that Osofo Dadzie said he wanted a state burial,” Mr Okraku Mantey revealed.

He, however, noted that it will be fair to give Nana Ampadu also known as ‘Adwomtofo Nyinaa Hene’ translated as ‘The king of all musician’ a state burial considering his service to Ghana.

“I have always kept in mind the statement the president made that day. Me as Mark, from where I sit, I don’t have the mandate to say we have to give Nana Ampadu a state burial or not but if the president in his own wisdom and those who will make a decision on his burial say he will be given a state burial, I think it is in order. There will be nothing wrong if the president decides to give him a state burial but nobody has the power to demand a state burial.”

The Highlife-great passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, after a short illness. He composed over 800 songs, popular among them include: ‘Oman Bo Adwo’, ‘Obra’, Kofi Nkrabea’, ‘Susu Ma No Nye Wode’, ‘Mother’, ‘Yaa Amponsah’

Shatta Wale not credible—Sadiq, CEO of ‘3Music Awards’

The CEO of 3Media Network, SADIQ Abdulai Abu, organizers of 3Music Awards, has described Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale as someone who is very economical with the truth so whatever he says should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Shatta Wale and Sadiq Abdulai Abu have been engaged in a war of words over the last week or two with the Dancehall artiste, who won 11 awards at the 2019 edition of the scheme, indicating that he did not merit all those trophies he won.

According to Shatta, Sadiq gave him all 11 awards because he(Sadiq) had issues with rapper Sarkodie and Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.

Again, Shatta Wale said he gave Sadiq GH¢100,000 to help in organizing the awards.

Although Sadiq has denied those claims, there are concerns the allegations can mar the reputation of the 3Music Awards.

This is because the organizers have been basking in the praise they have been receiving for organizing a near perfect fourth edition of 3Music Awards this year but Shatta’s allegations may pose a threat to the credibility of the scheme.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, September 20, Sadiq said Shatta Wale could not bring the 3Music Awards into disrepute because he was not credible.

“Anything coming from Shatta Wale should not be taken seriously because they are all not true. First of all, I never gave 11 awards to him because I had issues with Sarkodie or Stonebwoy.

“Secondly, Shatta Wale has never given me any GH¢100,000. Shatta Wale will never give me money to organize any awards,” he said.

Sadiq stated that he had never taken Shatta Wale seriously because of his track record.

“Shatta Wale is that guy who fights just anyone trying to outshine him. Look at what he said about Stonebwoy, Samini and Sarkodie when he had issues with them.

“The same person used unprintable words against Charterhouse and also the mother of his son. Why should I worry myself about such a person who would destroy you with lies,” he said.

According to Sadiq, the board of the 3Music Awards was dealing with the situation.

“Shatta Wale should tell the board how we gave him the 11 awards and the money he said he had given us. 3Music Awards is bigger than Shatta Wale and there is no way he can bring it down with his untruths,” he stated.

It is annoying for people to say I made money and wasted it – Psalm Adjetefio

• Psalm Adjetefio has described as annoying people’s criticism of him

• The veteran actor says it is not by his own doing that he had to go into financial crisis

• He reveals that exploitation by persons he has worked with and bad health is what has caused him to make a public appeal for support

Veteran Ghanaian actor, Psalm Adjetefio, said he finds it annoying when people accuse him of not being wise and prudent with his finances.

The popular actor known as TT from his role in the Taxi Driver series has been in the news recently after he came out publicly to solicit for funds to pay his rent and medical bills.

His public appeal for support attracted several comments including some critics who said he did not manage his finances well during his prime days as an actor.

In a recent interview with Oman Channel, TT, who has since received support from various quarters, bemoaned the criticisms being directed at him describing it as infuriating.

According to TT, his financial crisis has largely been due to exploitation from people he had to work with and his deteriorating health condition which has come with huge medical expenses.

He explained that for every episode of the popular Taxi Driver Series he featured in, he was given an amount of GHC10 old cedis equivalent despite his real allocation for the series budget being GHC30 old cedis equivalent.

“I was asked how much I get paid for each episode and I stated that it was one hundred thousand (old cedis) and I was told no, my budget was three hundred thousand. So for every week, someone was stealing my two hundred thousand. For all the Taxi Driver episodes I featured in, the money was stolen by someone”

“I was only getting one-third of my pay and someone was getting two-thirds. But because I naturally have a big body people think I made a lot of money. When I see people talk about me like that, I just watch them because they don’t know how we have suffered. There are times we would work for two months and when you go for your pay, you’ll be told your director has come for the money. You’ll try fruitlessly to reach him and once you do, he will tell you that he has spent the money.

“I get very annoyed when people go about saying he’s done a lot and where is the money? You don’t know my struggle. You have no idea how I’ve had to struggle. It is through prayers that God has brought benevolent people my way. It is very annoying. I only pray God will bless those who have come to my aid,” he added.

Following the revelation of his financial condition, TT, suffers medical conditions including heart failure and gouty arthritis has received help from personalities including the Vice President, the Greater Accra Regional Minister and the Chief of Staff.

You have failed in life’ – Nii Saka Brown blasts Psalm Adjeteyfio for soliciting funds publicly

Ghanaian veteran actor, Nii Saka Brown has slammed his colleague, Psalm Adjeteyfio for publicly soliciting for support to cater for his needs.

One can recall that Mr. Adjetefio took to social media to seek funds for his rent among others.

Following his plea, Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia and the Greater Accra regional minister, Henry Quartey provided him with some funds to enable him to foot the bills and his upkeep.

But some individuals, including popular Ghanaian actor, Nii Saka Brown, have described the actor’s decision to solicit funds to secure his rent as embarrassing and a dent on his image.null

According to him, TT should bow his head in shame if he hasn’t been able to gather any investments for himself throughout his entire career.

“George Williams died; he did not beg although his condition was extremely critical. He led a very good life. Look at Rama Brew… she never begged. It is the life they lived. Grace Nortey also did not beg. But as for TT, it’s his lifestyle. He said he needs money to pay rent? At this 60 something years of age, he is still renting. He has failed,” Nii Saka Brown stated in an interview with TV XYZ

I Never Asked Parents To Run Abroad With Their Kids -Agya Koo

Agya Koo

Kumawood actor, Agya Koo is denying reports that he advised parents to take out their children from Ghana due to insecurity in the country.

According to him, he didn’t make any such statement. The reports were fabricated lies targeted at destroying my reputation, he said.

Viral reports over the weekend quoted the popular actor asking parents to protect their children from getting killed due to recent in killings in some parts of the country.

“Currently, most parents in this country are not comfortable even when their kids go out to play because they fear something might happen to their children. For me, if you are a parent and you have what it takes, send your children to America or other safer countries. The killing and kidnapping is too much in this country”, he was quoted.

The reports further claimed that he spoke with a Kumasi-based radio station.

However in his reaction via a Facebook video, Agya Koo said those were not his words.

“It hurts when people try to ruin your reputation, they can use just a single day to bring you down.

Some online platforms are trying to wrongly accuse me of something I didn’t say. In fact, I can never say that. They claim I have issued a strong warning to parents to send their children abroad. Those circulating the news did not call me to confirm the story,” he stated.

“I never said that, as we know, they couldn’t even provide a voice or a video of me saying that. Just because I am famous and also close to the NPP, they want to say this to disgrace the party but I want to let them know that this cannot shame the party,” he indicated.

“God has blessed NPP, everything they are doing, Ghanaians love and appreciate it …very soon Ghanaians won’t even be bothered about abroad.

Our friends in abroad if they have the opportunity they will come down and we are praying for them. So I never said anything as they claim. I can never said that,” he added.

Agya Koo is one of the many creative art personalities who endorsed Akufo Addo’s presidency. He also mounted campaign platforms to canvass for votes for the president leading up 2016 and 2020 general elections.

Unfortunately it appears some persons are using him to score their political points

“Which father? You see it’s the same Jesus Christ . Are you telling me that if you enter heaven now you will see three chairs , your God on one of the chairs then your Jesus and Holy Spirit ? Is that how you picturing heaven to be? It’s just one seat and it’s Christ Jesus who sits on it and he’s the Holy Spirit over there now … He manifest himself everytime.. first he used to deal with us directly as the father then he realized that it won’t help so he had to come as flesh .. nipa.. he came to have a feel of our flesh and to tell us all we need to know, after he left and asked the spirit to stay with us, it’s like an egg it’s one but has various parts .. They say God the father son and Holy Spirit but God in 3 person .. so he’s one

I pick Jesus rather than God because the Bible has made me understand that no one comes to the father except through Jesus, if you don’t believe in Jesus everything is waste . Has any one called on God during an accident it’s Jesus we all mention.. so why do i waste time mentioning God God. God is Jesus Christ.”

You can’t feed me, I smoke GH¢5,000 worth of ‘wee’ every week – Afia Schwarzenegger fights Ayisha Modi

Controversial Ghanaian comedienne, Afia Schwarzenegger, has disclosed that she smokes GH¢5,000 worth of weed every week.

Her comments come after Ayisha Modi accused her of begging for money to fund her daughter, Adiepena’s, lifestyle.

Ayisha during a live video alleged that Afia Schwarzenegger constantly bugs her for money to foot her daughter’s bills.

“The weed I smoke every month exceeds GH¢5,000. You personally decided to gift Pena some money and I did not deprive you. Stop parading lies that I come to you for money to take care of my daughter. On her birthday, we booked a first class trip to Dubai. How much did you contribute for that? Did we come to you for money? You gave my daughter 2,000cedis on her birthday and I sent you a voice note to show gratitude. What was wrong with what I did? Can you care for my daughter’s lifestyle?”

Describing Ayisha Modi as a pauper who has nothing to offer, Afia established that anytime she is in dire need of money, she contacts the likes of Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, Kweku Oteng, and Father Dickson; all business moguls.

Although it is unclear what their banter is about, reports say the two have been involved in series of social media ‘wars’ over Moesha Boduong’s recent suicide attempt.

It can be recalled that Afia has been throwing subtle shades at Ayisha Modi for attacking Moesha’s Pastor and Ghanaian model, Victoria Michaels with accusations that they hypnotized the actress

“So, all these girls who have looked at my lifestyle, saying that they want to be like Moesha, you have been there and can testify that it isn’t easy. It’s not easy at all, some go and some die. Some go and die. Some of these girls go and die because of the wrong men they sleep with. They take our glory; you know they take out our glory. Why do you feel attacked when we speak the truth – Efia Odo to critics

Efia Odo 211.png

• Efia Odo has reiterated that the #FixTheCountry campaign isn’t politically motivatednull

• She has called on political figures to focus on the positive sides to the campaign

• The actress believes politicians always feel attacked by calls for Ghana’s development

Ghanaian actress Efia Odo, who is also a convenor of #FixTheCountry campaign, has once again come at her critics. This time, she has challenged “political people’ who have tagged the online protest which is aimed at demanding accountability from the ruling New Patriotic Party as ‘politically motivated’ to rather focus on the positive aspect of their call.

In a post sighted by GhanaWeb, Efia Odo, whilst responding to a submission by a Twitter user by name, Yaw Abban, expressed her displeasure about the politicization of important issues which ought to be discussed.

The Tweep wanted to draw her attention to the United States of America’s use of Zipline for the distribution of supplies and PPEs to some hospitals in their country in this pandemic era, a move Ghana had also adopted under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.null

Yaw Abban who tagged the actress in his tweet wrote: “The US tapped into Ghana’s idea of delivering medical supplies using drones during the peak time of the pandemic. Guess the “show us the way” doesn’t apply @efiaodo1.”

The actress whose attention was brought to the words of Yaw Abban retweeted the post saying: “Why do you feel attacked when someone says show us the way? why must everything seem so negative to you political people? who doesn’t want a better way or a prospering way? if Americans can take ideas from us why can’t we also take ideas from them? not everything must be a fight!”

The comment made by the said Twitter user has generated mixed reactions, with some calling on the attention of Ghanaians to note that Zipline which is an American medical product delivery company is not locally owned.

“Zipline is even an American company. So which way did Ghana show the US? ” wrote Kwaku O.

Another added: “I think it’s about time you stop fighting for the people because they don’t want it. Every time you post something positive, somebody will come and try to put you in mud. They don’t want any change. They don’t want you attacking the system. They are comfortable.”null

A third wrote: “We need both, if @efiaodo1 is going to shed light on the “negative ” things going on in the country, another person will also do same with the “positive ” things. We celebrate the positives, try and fix the negatives. It’s the only way to develop as a country.”
